Dr. Adelman’s Research currently addresses each of the following two topics:

1) how young and old generations influence the way each other learn when they share educational settings; and

2) the social impact of specific illnesses on newspaper coverage.

The intergenerational program examines structured interactions between undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Michigan and a local assisted living facility that selects elderly residents who are dedicated to life-long learning. The most recent analysis of newspaper coverage utilizes the LEXIS-NEXIS computerized database to distinguish between the social factors that contribute to growing fascination in the chronic nature of Alzheimer Disease and declining interest in the chronic nature of AIDS.
